Ageing well in Bridgend
Ageing is a journey that we are all on, making it in everyone’s best interests to make our county borough a place where people of all ages realise their potential and feel a sense of purpose and value in their lives.
We have set up the “Ageing well in Bridgend” website to act as a useful information source to help our older communities maintain independence and feel connected in their local communities.
Here you’ll find information to help you to lead an active, fulfilling lifestyle and useful links to initiatives and support for older people. Find out about local hobby groups, events and activities, as well as practical information relevant to older people’s needs.
We also aim to raise awareness of issues faced by older people in Bridgend County Borough, with this in mind we are publishing a new Ageing Well in Bridgend plan, a link to which will be available shortly. This will aim to build upon the success of our previous plan which can be accessed here: view our full Ageing Well in Bridgend plan here.
Following the appointment of Helena Herklots as the Older Peoples Commissioner for Wales we will be looking to update the Bridgend plan to align with the identified priorities:
Protecting and promoting older people’s rights
Protecting and promoting older people’s rights is essential for making them feel an integral part of the community and recognising that every person has inherent value regardless of age.
Ending ageism and age discrimination
Ageism is a prejudice or discrimination based upon a person’s age and is highly prevalent in society today.
Stopping the abuse of older people
Thousands of older people in Wales experience abuse, a single or repeated act, or a lack of appropriate action, which causes harm or distress.
Enabling everybody to age well.
Aging well: “Adding life to years not just years to life.”
